welcome
These are, O my Lord, the days in which Thou hast bidden Thy servants to observe the Fast. Blessed is he that observeth the Fast wholly for Thy sake and with absolute detachment from all things except Thee. Assist me and assist them, O my Lord, to obey Thee and to keep Thy precepts. Thou, verily, hast power to do what Thou choosest.
– Bahá’u’lláh –
amy and leila will be posting pictures of the dawns and dusks of their fasting experiences, starting the night of Sunday, 2 March 2008, eastern standard time.
the Bahá’í Fast is observed for nineteen days of the year, every year, between the hours of sunrise and sunset—hence the timing of the photographs.
you can read an actual and virtual description of nineteen days here.
we are very excited about this project, so much so that not eating or drinking for thirteen hours a day has become something to which we are actively counting down the sleeps.
Grant, O my Lord, that the fire of Thy love and the heat produced by the fast enjoined by Thee may inflame them in Thy Cause, and make them to be occupied with Thy praise and with remembrance of Thee.
— Bahá’u’lláh —
Bravo and I’m happy I can share in your creativity–Worship, that is…

I LOVE IT…what a lovely idea you creative darlings have come up with. I will be visiting daily!
joons, i absolutely LOVE this! i will be checking every day 🙂 so much love, yas
I love this idea. I love it so much I’m going to steal it. thanks.
This is a really nice idea and a good-looking blog. I can’t check it every day, but it will be a place of solace and inspiration during the Fast.
Fabulous!
This is wonderful guys–I’m so excited to see what you will be posting!
You should check out the photo blog “A Year of Mornings”. Two friends living 3191 miles apart, doing daily diptychs. They just got it published as a book and have started “A Year of Evenings”. So excited about your project!
brilliant. beautiful. i love it. x
Lovely idea and beautiful photos! Well done darlings!
amzolt: it WILL be creative worship!
shirin sahba + yas: thank you! and daily is definitely the way to go.
ryan: they do say that imitation … so we are flattered … but what do you mean by “steal”? should we be checking your blog or your flickr account for evidence of theft?
barney: thank you so much for your kind words.
rach: we think so, too!
elizabeth: thanks, and we are also excited to see what we will be posting …
anjali: 3191 is such a beautiful blog. we partly got our inspiration from it (well, amy did). on her blog post about “nineteen days” she mentions a few other collaborative photography projects, like 44 times 2 and Noticing Project, that have informed our creation of this blog. also, we credit 3191 in the “about” section? because plagiarists, we are not.
golriz: coming from someone with beautiful taste, your comment means a lot. cheers, bella.
shirin youssefian: and just when i thought i’d figured out everyone who amy was related to, here is another youssefian! but thank you! we are chuffed about ourselves, too.
love! from leila
Hi Leila! I fasted last year, and the year before, with my friend, then boyfriend, who is now kind of my fiance (we are working on the parental visit stuffs). This will be my third year, and I LOVE LOVE your photos in general, so I’m sure I will love these ones.
We live in Arizona and we lots of times broke fast on top of a certain mountain outside town, where you can see the whole city and sunset just gorgeously against the desert. The views were awe-striking (for lack of better term)… I wish I brought a camera to catch them! Such a good idea. Can’t wait to see it! 🙂
I AM AS WILDLY EXCITED AS YOU ARE!! [SHOUTING IN MY LOUDEST VOICE SO THAT YOU CAN HEAR ME] i will have to make this part of my fast ritual to visit your site once a day for my daily inspiration. hooray!
beautiful idea…i’m starting to get excitied for the Fast as well…!
