amy: this Fast is off to an odd start – due to bizarre work hours that see me eating breakfast at my desk and mother nature deciding to scare spring away by covering us with snow. but i am excited about being in this space again, about visiting friends, about leila being back in my life on a daily basis.

reed: I was very fortunate today that my day was calm and maintained a nice pace throughout. a calmness filled my day that offered me focus. it was a wonderful way to start the Fast. [I was a bit anxious about my photos though].

leila: a huge amount of my creativity these days is parlayed into persuading my daughter that it’s possible to fall asleep while she acts like it’s impossible.  when her hands go limp like this, it’s a sign of pure success.

how was your first day of the Fast?

I was soooo sleepy throughout the day on the first day of the Fast… but perhaps the highlight visually was looking out my window as dusk approached and seeing the bay of Haifa. The water was so smooth and flat, almost polished looking. And many boats were floating in the bay with their lights on. It’s been raining a lot, so the sky has been various shades of blue – ah, so pleasing to the eye!

leila, i love the crinkles and dimples on her sweet hand.
reed, burgers for fast breaking? nice! ps: no need to be anxious about your photos – they are great! Thanks for being our first guest!

Firstly, this is a sweet idea.

Secondly, Leila: I absolutely called it on Marzieh being in your first photograph (albeit in my own mind.)

    Thirdly, reiteration of firstly.

Although I’m not fasting, I appreciate the opportunity to share a little piece of the experience with you again this year through Nineteen Days. Thanks!

i was able to share this site with the local newspaper here in SD as they are doing a story on me and the Baha’i Faith!

    That is really exciting!

kadria – i miss those blues deeply. i don’t know that they exist anywhere else on earth. thank you for sharing this with us.

amy – i love them too! but they need to be cleaned almost daily, otherwise they start to smell cheesy (from when she puts her hands all over her face after eating).

reed – is that a bicycle in your first pic? i love the idea of starting the day with a crisp and brisk bike ride.

shirin youssefian – thank you for commenting!

carissa – YOU’RE a sweet idea! and Marzipan is pretty much my life these days. i’m going to have to access a (hopefully existing) secret store of creativity to find anything else to photograph.

mandi – i’m not fasting either. and, strangely, i think i need this project to help me feel like i am.

layli – NO. WAY. that is orsum. can’t wait to read about you in SD! you rrrrock!

shirin s. – i love those little birds too. it’s like something out of a (snowy) beatrix potter story.

todd b. – thanks very very much! it’s awesome that you stopped by and left such an encouraging comment.

Tis not my multi-cycle, and I think few ventured out on anything other than as bi-peds.
