day eleven

“I adjure Thee by Thy might, O my God! Let no harm beset me in times of tests, and in moments of heedlessness guide my steps aright through Thine inspiration.”

the Báb

shirin (beijing, china) left: Blessed: that is the overwhelming feeling I am having during this time of year. Stripped of food, & fighting material desires & negative thoughts, I often find myself counting my blessings. & when the time arrives to eat food, I can’t help but count that blessing too!

My husband was my muse for both photos; his ruffled feathers in the early morning are especially charming.

golriz (nashville, u.s.a.) right: The fast this year falls between five months of intense travels and a wedding. My wedding! Suffice to say, this season has provided the perfect opportunity to find pause amidst the haste. And though I still rally against opening my eyes that early in the day, those minutes gift me with a rare stillness and calm that I now realize I had been desperately craving.

Shirin! I love how you are able to Shirinify the colors of your photos, without even having to use any paint. Beautiful blue/cyan dawn light; wonderful feathery echo of bed-head and … red bunch of feathers on the wall. Please tell me that is a hat.

Golriz! I love the symbolism of the sweet two pairs of well-worn sneakers, especially at this time in your life. And I love how you managed to capture stillness at dusk with a just-flickering-on street lamp against that wired sky.

two of the sweetest dawns thus far! all of today’s photos filled me with a sense of happiness. perhaps because, coupled with both your reflections, it felt like a joyful testament to love! thank you shirin and golriz.

i love the colors in yours, shideen. so very wonderful and calming. oh i wish i was with you two during this time! i love you!, beautiful, whimsical shot of namo @ dawn. he always reminded me of a duck, so “ruffled feathers” works so well. indeed!
gol: i love how you can really capture your personality in the shot with the shoes, two cute. and the dusk? spectacular.

thank you for all your lovely comments! i wish i could transport us all to some giant afterparty at the close of 19days where we could host the most elaborate photoshoot of all time!

i realized today that through this project i have the bounty of experiencing a slice of someone else’s dawn and dusk. it seems like such an obvious outcome of 19days, but somehow it differs from regular photography, where you are ‘seeing’ through another person’s lens, because along with the seeing is the ‘knowing’ of what this time means, and the sense that we are all unified in our motivation.

shirin s. – getting to share a dawn&dusk with you was wonderful. not only do i wish i could live inside of your paintings, i have always adored your animated photoshoot montages. they are so good at capturing the whimsical nature of life and are so full of joy!

i concur with golriz’s comment about the afterparty for the 19 day photographers! that would be UH-mazing. okay, golriz: love your photos. your blog and flickr stream are so incredible! glad to have discovered your photography and hope to keep seeing more of it. shireen: your dusk photo is one of my all-time faves of this year’s 19 days! seriously! loooove it. and love how for the dawn one you took something so simple and made it into something so creative. wish your home was still in bear mountain, i must say. i’d be over for tea every week!
