day five

The soul is not a combination of elements, it is not composed of many atoms, it is of one indivisible substance and therefore eternal. It is entirely out of the order of the physical creation; it is immortal!

‘Abdu’l-Bahá

“Let your vision be world embracing rather than confined to your own self.”

Bahá’u’lláh

golriz lucina/left (atwater village, ca, usa): A year ago we held our newborn son in our arms and we wrestled, and reconciled, with the fact that our lives would never.be.the.same.again. This week, our one-year-old began to take his first steps. And I don’t know how to feel about this, except conflicted. Every aspect of our lives right now feels like it is in overdrive. It’s simultaneously exhilarating and exhausting. So I am grateful for this Fasting period. For these days where we are forced to slow down, and pause, and reflect.

shirin sahba/right (beijing, china): How quickly another year has come & gone. The Fast arrives again, & slows down life exponentially. I imagine that I am suddenly intensely aware of every second, of every breath, every atom vibrating in my being & inevitably … every blessing … I am so earthly, so material, so flawed, but I have the Fast to guide my way: this golden thread that attaches & tugs from my heart to the Divine once a year, reminding me to raise my spiritual standards & to think of those who don’t have so much.

Such honest reflections by both of you, and such insight. Shirin, your images reminded me of the cutesy version of Pans Labyrinth. How with our eyes wides open we await for a glimpse of what will come. I always love your “vision”.

I’ve been reflecting on that A LOT myself lately, that the elements we are composed of are all interconnected in a way….this thought is uniting to me in itself and makes me feel closer to the rest of humanity. In the same but different thread (hehe) our souls are all interconnected through that “divine golden thread” that Shirin speaks of.. and that causes us to pause in wonder when we feel a throb of love for someone and see the divine in their eyes… or reunite in our dreams.

I love reading this photo blog every morning after I’ve blessed the day with prayers. We are so fortunate to have each other during this special time.

So my two favorite artists that I’ve yet to meet (but just know I will) have been paired together. If my birthday was during the Fast, this set would have been my birthday present.
Gol, your tones are so soothing and your silhouette is as soft, wispy and lovely as the flowers. That entire image to me is a window into the tenderness and delicacy that is discovered within oneself in the first year of motherhood. And Devon on the hill, beautifully composed and captured, echos the lines of your dawn image to perfection.
Shirin, you are just beyond. “Whimsical” doesn’t even measure up to the level of style, cohesiveness (down to the lipstick), creativity and clarity with which you communicate through your art. Just brilliant.

“These are they who have been so inebriated with the wine of Thy manifold wisdom that they forsake their couches in their longing to celebrate Thy praise and extol Thy virtues, and flee from sleep in their eagerness to approach Thy presence and partake of Thy bounty. Their eyes have, at all times, been bent upon the Dayspring of Thy loving-kindness, and their faces set towards the Fountainhead of Thine inspiration.”-Baha’u’llah
