about nineteen days
nineteen days started in 2008 as a collaborative photography project inspired by the Bahá’í Fast.
Most of the contributors are members of the Bahá’í Faith—a world religion that has as its fundamental purpose the unification of all the peoples of the world. You can learn more about the Bahá’í Faith here.
As Bahá’ís we are enjoined to fast from sunrise to sunset for nineteen days, from March 2nd to March 20th.
It is essentially a period of meditation and prayer, of spiritual recuperation, during which the believer must strive to make the necessary readjustments in his inner life, and to refresh and reinvigorate the spiritual forces latent in his soul. Its significance and purpose are, therefore, fundamentally spiritual in character.

Now in its sixth year, nineteen days is a way to share with all of you moments of our early mornings and early evenings for the nineteen days of the Bahá’í Fast. Friends from all over the world contribute each year, and every day a different pair of photographers will be sharing glimpses of their Fasting experiences.
Participants will be waking up before dawn to have breakfast, pray and prepare for the day. They will be sitting down at sunset to break the fast, pray and reflect. Inspirational passages from the Bahá’í Sacred Writings are included in the daily postings, along with photographers’ personal thoughts.

I am so sorry for not responding to you sooner – we tend to hibernate between one Fast and the other so I didn’t notice your comment until now. Hey guys, Thanks, again for a wonderful companion to the Fast. I look forward to the posts each day after prayers and breakfast. I would so appreciate it if you could help me find a comment made by one of the contributors – I think from last year. She (or he, I don’t remember) talks about the fast when, as a child her/his parents would wake up all the kids to pray and eat breakfast together. I so want to share that with some Bahá’í families in my community and now I can’t find it. I’m so sure I saw it just yesterday, looking through older posts, but now I can’t find it. Help, please?
