nineteen days

day eight

It is incumbent upon you to ponder in your hearts and meditate upon His words, and humbly to call upon Him, and to put away self in His heavenly Cause. These are the things that will make of you signs of guidance unto all mankind, and brilliant stars shining down from the all-highest horizon, and towering trees in the Abhá Paradise.”

‘Abdu’l-Bahá

O Son of Dust! All that is in heaven and earth I have ordained for thee, except the human heart, which I have made the habitation of My beauty and glory.”

Bahá’u’lláh

tamila (bishkek, kyrgyzstan) left: I am so blessed to be around my dear family during this time of the year and to fast together. To wake each other up and to pray together at the dawn of each of these days has been so inspiring. And gathering around the table in the evenings sharing the reflections and insights the Fast brings to each one, makes another day complete for me.

During the first few days of this blessed season of restraint, I gained a better understanding of what is meant by the following statement: “we are not human beings having a spiritual experience, rather, we are spiritual beings having a human experience.”

Indeed, it is one of the purpose of the Fast that we all strive to truly experience ourselves as we truly are – and that is – we are souls that have bodies, and, not bodies with souls.

Hence, when Baha’ullah writes: “Dost thou reckon thyself only a puny form, when the universe is folded within thee” – now comes alive, and, makes a lot more sense. How ever, it seems to me, for one to fully grasp this truth, one has to take some time for deep meditation and reflection; and, these nineteen days of the Fast is a divine and precious gifts for us to do so!

Love the slight shine and glint on your dawn, Tamila. And the feeling of far-awayness in your sunset.

Bobby, do you usually play ball right at sunset during the Fast?

Thanks for the love everyone. and Leili (Enemy), next time you’re in LA, I’ll take you to Venice Beach. They have great food and lattes on the boardwalk…not too far from the basketball courts of course 🙂
